    Hi there,

Im using similar layout to your demo website.

When loading homepage, there is a section with 4 products on display.
The website downloads the images at 540x720px and then resizes on page to 270x360px.

The size of 270x360px is actually correct.
The problem is the website loads all images at the double the quality required.

I dont want to change the woo-commerece image sizes as this will probably disrupt the product page images.

is there a way to upload the correct image sizes and adjust CSS to only load the correct size?

Not sure if its the theme or woo-commerece which is resizing the images in this way.

    thanks,

    Hi!

So you are uploading 270 x 360 images?
What are your catalog image dimensions in the WooCommerce settings?
    Cheers

    Hi Melanie,

I am uploading 1200×1800 images exactly like the original template has.
The website follows the recommended image sizes and they are listed below.

The homepage then resizes the images to 270×360, but it is loading them at 540x720px and pushing them into a 270×360 box.

I want to only load images on the homepage at 270x360px so its less download.
I fear if I change the woo-commerce image settings, it will have problems for single product pages?

    Any thoughts?

    Woo-commerece image options;
    Catalog Images 540x720px
    Single Product Image 540x720px
    Product Thumbnails 120 x 178px

    Hi,

The theme will use the catalog/single product image sizes and adjust them to the display type you’re using. While on one hand, it loads larger images than it shows, it helps by having them already loaded when people visit the catalog/product pages.

If you needed another size, you would need to register a new image size with Woocommerce and custom code it in the theme templates to use that instead, since there is no option in the theme that can do this.

I would like to add to this topic.

My website has become unusably slow to load (www.alfredandwilde.co.uk). The various website speed checkers state that the fact the theme does not serve scaled images as the #1 problem.

I tried using WP total cache, but I have a shared hosting plan and the hosting provider (123-reg) told me that caching can end up slowing the website down. Which I think it eventually did.

It appears to be quite a slow theme to load. Is there anything I can do to speed it up? Do you have any plans to make it serve scaled images?

    Thanks,

@simonmitchell83 – While those speed checkers are largely helpful, they can be misleading. The serving of scaled images which you are referring to is needed in order to provide retina imagery, and for your images to look good throughout the responsive views.

My recommendation would be to install Better WordPress Minify – the standard settings should work wonders.
