My site is very slow. Especially category pages like https://patipada.nl/product-categorie/yoga-kleding/
I just started with CloudFlair, but when checking Google Page Speed tool: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpatipada.nl%2Fproduct-categorie%2Fyoga-kleding%2F
I found out the categorie images are huge. Probably because of my previous theme. Is there a way to automatically resize and compress the categorie images?
Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks,

You will need to optimize the images before you upload them

July 13, 2015 at 10:26 am #194008Hmm.. not sure were talking about the same thing here.
To be sure, I explain the problem a little further…
In this category https://patipada.nl/product-categorie/yoga-kleding/ there are about 40 products.
The 40 products use a thumbnail and a roll over thumbnail, so there are about 80 thumbnails.
On the screen each thumbnail is about 220px * 220px.
But when you go to the exact location of the image used as thumbnail, the images used is lots and lots bigger (like > 1200px).
See for example this image: https://patipada.nl/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/aladdin-broek-mannen-olijfgroen.jpgI believe the thum sizes should be automatically be resized to 220px*220px?
But maybe my previous theme did not do this?
Is there a way to resize the images afterwards?Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks,
July 13, 2015 at 10:31 am #194014For the product images go to WooCommerce > Settings > Products and the image size settings are at the bottom. Once you’ve changed the settings you will need to use the regenerate thumbnails plugin

July 13, 2015 at 12:16 pm #194085Great! I hoped this was possible.
Tnx!!July 13, 2015 at 12:20 pm #194090no problem. Thanks Kyle
-RuiJuly 14, 2015 at 9:05 pm #194622Hmmm… It seems the resize thumbnail plugin generated the images, but when ready the Atelier theme collapsed (not activated and broken).
I had to restore my DB and files.
Now,… I see that the plugin generated thumbnails, but the theme category page is referring to the large images instead of the thumbnails.
For example:This page: https://patipada.nl/product-categorie/yoga-kleding/
Contains this product image:
Instead of a thumbnail, like:
aladdin-broek-mannen-olijfgroen-150×150.jpgThis last one does excist, for all the images in all my categories.
Maybe there is a way to set my theme to select [imagename]-150×150.jpg?
Or is there an other way?Looking forward to hear any ideas.
Tnx!
July 15, 2015 at 8:52 am #194702After you have changed image-size in WooCommerce, you should use regenerate thumbnails – https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/
Just make sure you havnt “checked” the hard-crop checkbox under woocommerce > Product, if the images got the right aspect-ratio ๐

July 15, 2015 at 1:04 pm #194851Hi OctoKom, Kyle,
I have done this, but the problem is that the theme was broken and not selected anymore after I regenerated the thumbnails.
After repairing this, the new size thumbs are on my server. But the theme does not select the thumbs.
The atelier theme uses the big images instead of the thumbs on the categoriepages. Is there a way to use the thumbs (which exists on the server) instead of the large images?
July 15, 2015 at 1:27 pm #194867Hi,
Can you provide admin access in a private reply to check your Woocommerce settings?
Thanks-Rui

You are running an active child theme that is broken? – There is also an update available for the main theme.
It looks like you have disabled the Atelier theme?
When you reactivate the theme abd set the Woo image siezed, please install the plugin Ajax thumbnail rebuild to build the correct sizes.
Thanks,
David.July 16, 2015 at 8:22 pm #195383Strange,.. in somehow it was broken. I did not notice.
I have restored a backup of the files. I did not get the child theme working yet.
Have to work on that but I go on holidays tomorrow ๐ So I cannot update to the new Atelier theme because I will loose some settings ๐Will try the Ajax thumbnail rebuild now though ๐
