    Hi there,

    I guess we have some kind of hack on our website. I already did a scan and deleted all the “bad” files from the server. When using the mini header menu, there are some weird russian text right after each menu link text. For a easy fix I just add this to custom css:

    span.menu-item-desc {
    display: none;
    }

    But I would like to know if you guys have any recommendation in how to remove this completely out of our website. I am attaching a screen shot in how it looks when the code was not added.

    Any help will be very appreciated.

    Thank you!
    Marcio

    Hi,

    It’s always difficult to clean everything. The best option is always to discard that installation and start on a new one since we always don’t exactly what files they attacked.

    Could you please just give me a little more guidence on that? Do I need to delete or just overwrite everything? If I need to delete, how can I keep the actual website files? Its a big site with thousands of products.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

    In my reply the advice is to forget that installation and create a new WordPress install in different directories.

    Or you can erase everything and install again WordPress and after the theme and import the theme database.

    Don’t forget to backup the uploads directory inside the wp-content/

    Of course you can just replace the theme files, it depends on the extension of the damage that is always hard to figure out.

    Try to use a plugin like Duplicator.

    Duplicator – WordPress Migration Plugin

    Unfortunately this not theme related and we can’t provide deeper assistance on this.
