    Just a basic question really – I know the videos should be about 3mb max to load decently. I would like to know

    1) What program is best for multiple file conversions (ogg, webm and mp4) after I have created my video – I use Vegas, intend to make loops of say, ten seconds

    2) What dimensions I am best using given filesize restrictions?

    Hi there,

    1. We use Miro Video Converter (http://www.mirovideoconverter.com). Although we usually only use mp4 (h.264) and Webm. It’s free and pretty good. We use After Effects for video, so all our mp4’s are exporting direct from there.

    2. We use either 1080p (1920×1080) or 720p (1280×720). To be honest we haven’t really seen any difference in quality between the two. I would recommend 720p, but you might want to try exporting at both sizes and testing them out.

    Lastly a word on hosting. We’ve noticed a huge difference in the speed of videos depending on where they’re hosted. We use Amazon S3 specifically for videos as it seems fastest for us.

    Hi there,

    Unfortunately this will be an issue with your hosting. You’re currently using video files uploaded in the media library. We’d recommend using Amazon S3 (http://aws.amazon.com/s3/) it’s free to try.

    Hmm – thanks for this but I really really don’t want to be paying (even after 12 months) for anyone else’s services. Would it make any difference if I uploaded the video via FTP? I think I should try it, don’t you? The video loads fast – it just goes wrong at the end of a single cycle…

    Have you checked the video file itself to ensure there is no pause at the start/end? You can try uploading via FTP.

    Like Ed said it will be an issue with your hosting, the only way to solve it would be to host the video somewhere else. You can try upload via ftp but not sure if it will make a difference

    Oh wow –

    Showing the still in Firefox.
    Completely stuttering after first loop in IE
    Perfectly working in Chrome…

    I’ve just cleared my cache again, put in the self-hosted URLs

    OK, I have just created a new video for http://www.9junkies.co.uk – in mp4, ogv and webm formats, uploaded to the MEDIA LIBRARY.

    It works perfectly in IE and Chrome (no need for S3 with this host) – but NOTHING in Firefox. Firstly, what format does Firefox depend on, and why is it only with this browser it doesn’t work? I can give you my wp-admin details privately – Kyle said he would speak to Ed and this has taken me literally 8 hours to try and get right – there must be some easy solution but I have exhausted my ideas…!
